Gary Lloyd Steffensen, 81, of Belgrade, died Saturday, July 20, at his home. His memorial service will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 24, at Crow River Lutheran Church in Belgrade. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Tuesday, July 23, at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial with military honors will be at the church cemetery. www.hafh.org
Gary Lloyd Steffensen was born December 04, 1942, to Lloyd and Hedvig (Mikkelson) Steffensen in Belgrade. He graduated from New London High School in 1960. In 1961, Gary enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Washington State and in Okinawa, Japan for 18 months. While serving in Washington, Gary met his future wife, Carol Lowder. They were married on June 19, 1965 in Kelso, Washington. Gary and Carol moved to Minneapolis where Gary began his career in the sheet metal industry. They later moved back to Washington, before making Belgrade their home where Gary began to farm. Carol passed away on July 6, 2012.
On May 18, 2018, Gary married Wendy Lecher at Living Word Church in New London. They continued to live in Belgrade.
Gary enjoyed working on his many cars and pickups, horses, fishing and playing Buck Euchre with family and friends.
Gary is survived by his wife, Wendy; children: Mike (Stacy) Steffensen, Joe Steffensen and Willy (Andrea) Steffensen; stepchildren: Darren (Laura-Lo) Birch, Dawn Rupp and Dion (fiancée, Lisa) Birch; daughter-in-law, Cathy Steffensen; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Gary is further survived by his brothers: Dale Steffensen, David (Sandy) Steffensen and Wayne (Kathy) Steffensen; and sister, Mary Lee Weaver.
Gary was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol; his parents; children: Daniel Steffensen and Christopher Steffensen; grandchildren: Trista Monson and Shyra Martyn; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Jon Steffensen.
