Gary Stewart Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sequim Valley Funeral Chapel on Feb. 17, 2026.
Gary was a charming individual who was known for his willingness to help any friend in need. He was a resilient fighter, demonstrating immense strength as he battled Stage 4 non-small cell carcinoma for nearly two years to ensure he had more time with those he loved.

Gary is survived by his son Jared M. Stewart, and his wife Laira of Sequim, Washington. He leaves behind two daughters, Tia M. Stewart of Metolius, Oregon, and Paige T. Stewart of Multnomah, Oregon. He is also survived by his brother Michael R. Stewart, and his sister Marilyn G. Stewart. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren: Evan K. Powell, Elijah A. Powell, Kaeden T. Glass, Cooper T. Glass, Tristan A. Stewart, and Ariana E. Stewart.

Predeceased Family Members Gary was preceded in death by his father, Jack "Marty" Stewart, and his mother, Bernice R. H. Stewart. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jack D. Stewart, and his sister, Janice L. Stewart.

While Gary left high school during his junior year to enter the workforce, he took great pride in the fact that all three of his children went on to achieve college degrees and established successful careers.

Gary was a man of many talents and worked a variety of physically demanding jobs throughout his life. He worked as a lumberer, a bounty hunter, a bouncer, and in construction. He spent the final chapter of his career as a truck driver before being forced into early retirement due to Meniere's disease.

An avid outdoorsman, Gary loved hunting and fishing in the Pacific Northwest. He spent the majority of his life in the outdoors, which gave him great joy. He was also well known for his love of karaoke and his ability to light up a room with his personality.

In 2018 Gary moved to Sequim, Washington, to live on the same property as his son, Jared, where he spent his final years surrounded by family. Following an emergency brain surgery in June 2024, Gary fought a courageous battle against cancer with chemotherapy and radiation, prioritizing every moment possible with his children and grandchildren.

Gary was always a kind gentle man. I remember as a child he was like an extra older brother. As we're all the Stewart's they were like an extended family. He will.truly be missed.

I wish I would have known of Gary´s health issues. I believe the last time I spoke with Gary was at Uncle Lloyd´s Celebration of Life. I often accompanied Grandpa Clarence when he would go out to Rose Valley to visit Aunt Bernice. Gary would take me into the woods. Rest in Peace Cousin. I will not be able to attend the Celebration due to prior obligations.

Gary was one of those people whose friendship was a blessing.
I will always cherish the memories of Gary, Ed and I spending time together.
He was taken from all of us way too soon, but his kindness, laughter and big hugs will never be forgotten.

My sincerest sympathy to all of Gary's family members.
