RUPERT – Gary Marcus Tegan, 89, passed away peacefully at his home in
Rupert, Idaho, on December 30, 2025, with his loving wife, Gloria, by his side.
Gary was born on June 5, 1936, in
St. George, Utah, to his parents, James Thomas Tegan and Lucille Burgess Tegan. When Gary was six months old, the family moved to
Burley, Idaho, where he spent his childhood. From an early age, Gary helped on the family farm alongside his dad and brothers. He was always proud that he could run a team of horses as a young boy. He often recalled the excitement of coming home from school one day to find his home had electricity for the first time.
Gary was a gifted student and competed nationally in public speaking in Chicago while in high school. He graduated from Burley High School in 1954.
After high school, Gary served a Latter-day Saints mission in the Southwest States Mission, where he proudly served the Lord. Following his mission, he served a short stint in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. He then returned home to farm south of Burley.
On May 15, 1964, Gary married Gloria Pack in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple and together they began their family. They were blessed with six children.
In 1976, Gary and his brother Blaine moved their farming operation from Burley to Raft River. Gary and Gloria decided to move their family to the new farm and Raft River remained their home for the next 49 years.
Gary farmed with his brother Blaine and his sons. He later worked for Webb Basin Dairy until 1997. He then began a second career selling tractors and farm equipment for Agri-Service, where he worked until his retirement in 2016 at the age of 79. Gary loved farming, tractors, and especially enjoyed the opportunity to meet new people and built many valued relationships while working for Agri-Service.
Gary was very involved in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had an extremely strong testimony of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; all of his brothers; one sister; his daughter, Tracy; and his grandson, Tyler Smith.
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; his sons, Treg (KayLynn), Micheal (Christy), Brandon, Matthew, and Ryan (Jerri); 18 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - View Church, located at 490 East 550 South, of Burley. Burial will follow at View Cemetery.
