Luyben Dilday Mortuary - Long BeachGary Donald TemesJuly 24, 1948 – January 4, 2026
Gary Donald Temes passed away peacefully on January 4, 2026, at the age of 77.
Gary was born on July 24, 1948, in Columbia, Tennessee, to Virginia Ellis and James Temes. He was the eldest of 6 children in the family, a role he carried with pride throughout his life. He is preceded in death by both his parents, brother Larry, and sisters Patricia and Debbie. He is survived by younger sisters Shirley and Ellen.
He honorably served his country in the United States Army, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty, loyalty, and perseverance. During his time in service he spent 15 months in Korea.
On November 24, 1972, Gary married the love of his life, his beloved wife Gundi. Together they shared 53 years of marriage, building a life rooted in commitment, hard work, and devotion to family. Gary and Gundi made their home in Lakewood, California, where Gary lived in the same house for 50 years—a testament to his love of stability, home, and family.
Gary was a proud and devoted father to his daughter, Kristi Temes Hernandez and his son, Jeffrey Temes, along with their spouses Gabriel Hernandez and Jessica Temes. His greatest joy came from being “grandpa” to his four grandchildren: Madelyne Hernandez, Ashton Hernandez, Evan Temes, and Jacob Temes, each of whom he adored deeply.
Gary was a passionate sports fan and loyal supporter of his favorite teams, proudly cheering for the LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, LA Rams, and USC Trojans football. Watching games and following his teams brought him great joy and was something he loved to share with family and friends.
Gary will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady presence, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
