Luyben Dilday Mortuary - Long BeachThomas “Tom” Watry, 64, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of our community, Tom was known for his boundless energy, generous spirit, and unwavering passion for sports.
Tom graduated from Jordan High School in 1979. He devoted 39 years to FedEx, where his dedication and integrity were matched by his endearing no-nonsense charm and not-so quiet wit - a quality that brought both smiles and respect from his coworkers.
One of the most beautiful chapters of his life was his love story with Cindy. They first married on March 13, 1993, and after life took them on separate paths, fate brought them back together. They remarried on September 23, 2023, proving that true love can find its way home twice. One of Toms greatest joys was sharing his love of sports with his sons Zachary and Jacob. From countless games watched together to spirited debates over stats and plays. They both inherited his remarkable photographic memory for sports, a gift that will keep his passion alive in every conversation and every game they enjoy.
Tom was known for his boundless energy, generous spirit, and unwavering passion for sports. From his early days coaching at St. Pancratius and Little League baseball to his decades as a devoted fan of the Dodgers and Rams. Tom’s love for the game was contagious. He never missed a chance to cheer from the stands, coach a youth team, or share game-day traditions with friends and family at his favorite Glory Days or Snug Harbor. His encyclopedic knowledge of stats and plays made him the go-to person for any sports bet and/or debate – and always delivered his opinions with a smile.
Tom’s legacy will live on in every Dodger game, Ram game and every shared moment of victory and defeat. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Helen Watry, his mother-in-law Lucille Kruger, father-in-law Eldon Kruger and niece Darla Disbrow. He is also preceded in death by his wife’s beloved grandparents, Wayne and Irene DeGrote.
Survived by his three sisters, Cindy (Charley) Ewers, Jeanine (Terry) Register, Julie (Curt) Thompson. Sister in laws, La Rae (Darrell) Disbrow, Janel (Gerry) Bullerdick, MarJean (Matt) Silva.
