Gary L. Theiss, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on July 13, 2025, in Round Rock, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on March 28, 1952, in Bishop, Texas, Gary's life was a testament to his unwavering faith, his dedication to his family, and his passion for creativity and craftsmanship.
Gary's journey began as a bright-eyed young man with an exceptional talent for design and an eye for detail, traits that led him to pursue a degree in Engineering at the University of Texas. His education laid the foundation for a successful career where he not only designed structures but also built a reputation for integrity and excellence.
Throughout his life, Gary's Christian faith was his guiding light, instilling in him the virtues of kindness, love, and selflessness-qualities that he embodied every day. His gentle spirit and generous heart touched the lives of many, leaving a legacy of warmth and compassion.
A devoted husband to his loving wife, Fran Theiss, Gary was a rock of support and a source of boundless love. Though he felt the deep sorrow of losing his son Trey Longmore, he continued to be a beacon of strength and comfort for his surviving children, Suzanne Willett (Jeremy) and Justin Theiss. His role as Papa to Hagen and Archer Willett was one of his greatest joys; he was their biggest fan when it came to watching them play football and baseball. The fishing trips and shared projects were also moments of pure happiness and cherished memories that will be held dear forever. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved fur babies, L-Lee-Mae and Macy, who brought him constant companionship and joy.
Gary's interests were as diverse as his talents. He was a master of woodworking, finding solace in the soothing rhythm of saw and chisel. His leatherworking pieces were not just crafts but reflections of his meticulous nature and creative spirit. Always one to get his hands dirty, Gary took pleasure in various DIY projects, where he not only fixed and improved but also taught and inspired. He was always there when you had a wild idea or needed help figuring out how to build, fix, or reinvent something-always ready to dive in with you.
Gary had a deep passion for travel and a genuine curiosity for the world's culture, food and architecture. His journeys took him to Germany, Italy, London, Spain, Mexico, the Bahamas, and many remarkable places across the United States.
Those who knew Gary will remember the tranquility of his presence, the patience in his teaching, and the generosity of his time. Whether he was guiding sharing moments at the lake or casting a line into the still waters on a quiet morning, Gary was the epitome of a life well-lived and love freely given.
As we bid farewell to Gary L. Theiss, we celebrate a man who built more than just structures; he built a family, a home, and an enduring legacy of kindness. His departure leaves behind a void that can never be filled, but also a treasure trove of memories that will continue to inspire and guide those who were fortunate enough to know him. In his memory, we hold close the lessons he imparted and the love he shared. Gary's story is one of a life beautifully crafted, much like the works of art he left behind-a life that will be remembered and honored for generations to come.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, July 21, 2025, at the Harrell Funeral Home of Austin. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
