Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ferguson Funeral Home - Plain City on Dec. 3, 2025.
Gary Philip Thomas, 68, of Medina, formerly of
Plain City, Ohio, passed away at home on November 28, 2025. He was born on February 15, 1957, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Paul and Doris (Blevins) Thomas.
Gary graduated from Jonathan Alder High School in 1975. He continued his education at Columbus Technical Institute, where he earned an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Later in life, he earned a second Associate's Degree from Liberty University. When Gary was twelve years old, he began working at Union Enterprises, Inc., the machine shop owned and operated by his parents. His first job was cleaning the shop, but he gradually worked his way up to operating all the machinery. Following his training in mechanical engineering, he was able to program computerized machines. His expertise and experience were vital to the modernization and success of the business. After he retired, he enjoyed sharing his expertise with struggling machine owners and operators on Facebook.
Gary loved his family and enjoyed attending family reunions. If you are his cousin or aunt, he would want you to know that he loved you. He also loved and appreciated his friends, especially those who stood by him during difficult times. In his younger years, he liked to hunt and play basketball. Also, he loved to watch basketball and Ohio State football. Gary loved driving, especially powerful cars with standard transmission! Along with his immediate family, he became a charter member of Cornerstone Church in Plain City in 1967.
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Paul and Doris, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his sister, Barb, of Laredo, Texas; his daughter, Eileen (John) Jenkins, of Woodbine, Georgia; and one granddaughter. He is gone too soon and will be missed by his family and friends. Barb is extremely grateful for the love, support, and prayers she has received from her family, friends, church family, and missionary family at this difficult time. May God bless you!
