Gary Tidball Obituary

Gary Duane Tidball, age 89, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026 in Muskegon, Michigan. He was born on January 8, 1937, in Flint, Michigan, to Clyde Tidball and Elleen (Young) Tidball. Gary lived his early years in the village of Genesee, Michigan, outside of Flint, attending the Genesee School system and graduating from neighboring Kearsley High School. He graduated from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in 1959 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. In July 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Owen of Davison, Michigan. They had two children, Martin (Elaine) Tidball of Rockford, Michigan and Cara Bailey of Holland, Michigan. Following graduation from GMI, he was employed at Buick Motor Division of General Motors until 1967, when he, along with his family, moved to Muskegon, Michigan, where he was employed at Continental Motors Corporation, later to become Teledyne Continental Motors, General Dynamics, L3 Harris, and RENK America. He held various senior management positions at both the downtown and Getty St facilities, retiring in 1998 from General Dynamics as Plant Manager. He was a long-time member of Forest Park Covenant Church, where he sang in the choir and served on numerous boards and ministry positions. In 2003, he helped start the "Manage Your Money" program of Love INC, where he served many years as a teacher, mentor, and trainer. Active as a volunteer in his retirement years, he did considerable mentoring, teaching, and training, including mentoring and reading at Moon School in Muskegon and the Prison Ministry of Forest Park Covenant Church. Gary was also a charter member of the Muskegon County Chapter of Pheasants Forever, where he served as treasurer and long-time habitat chairman. Survivors, in addition to his children, include his seven grandchildren, Amanda (Tim) DeVries, Andrew (Samantha) Tidball, Angela (Peter) Sturrus, Augusta (Andrew) Schmidt, Marshall Bailey, Francie (Michael) Akpabey, and Schafer Bailey; and seven great-grandchildren, Owen and Reed DeVries, Desmond and Briley Tidball, Oliver and Waverly Sturrus, and Halden Schmidt; sister-in-law, Judy Tidball; and one niece, Chris (Scott) Niblock. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; son-in-law, Hal Bailey; and brother and sister-in-law, Reginald and Marion Tidball. A Memorial Service for Gary will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Forest Park Covenant Church. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Love INC. of Muskegon (1051 Peck St., Muskegon, MI 49440). Gary was such a blessing and gift in the life of my family. Many years ago we came into a season of terrifying financial difficulty. During that season we got connected with Love INC at our home church, Forest Park Covenant. Gary sat down with us to hear what was going on and shared his heart of belief for us. We had never felt so helpless as we did in that time and he spoke hope and love to us. We paid off so much debt and did, indeed come out of it victorious. Gary and Margaret, along with other dear mutual friends came to celebrate that victory with us and continued to love abundantly into us. In the coming years, Gary and I did a session of his Managing Money class together; such a rich time in my life. Gary, I love you and I am so thankful that you are now with your beautiful bride! Until we meet again in eternity! I promise I will stay out of trouble :) I still want to be like you when I grow up

So many adjectives to describe Gary: honest, diligent, trustworthy, loyal, caring...As all will confirm, you will be greatly missed. Time spent with Gary was always time well spent. The world was simply a better place with you in it.

I have fond memories of my days at Teledyne Continental Motors 76 Getty St plant from the mid 70's to mid 80'S. Gary was a highly respected and admired example of leadership in management. I don't think I ever heard an unkind word about him from anyone that knew him. He will no doubt be missed by many. Rest in peace with the Lord of Lords my friend. Well done!!

Gary, you are missed deeply already. This world was a better place with you in it. Your quick wit, intelligence and devotion to God, your Family and multiple volunteer endeavors are one of a kind and will not be forgotten. Rest in peace my Friend. Until we meet again!

There was an immediate connection from the moment we met, and although we only knew each other for a short time, the mark he left is permanent.

In fact, I´ll forever cherish this moment as a favorite... a day Gary brought his friends to see Love Cafe and take a photo.

We walked back to the bus together, and shortly after everyone was seated we shared some precious moments together in prayer...

That was the last time, until the next time brother.

Thank you, Mr. Tidball and family... countless lives are different because of you; your commitment, sacrifice, and love for our Lord!

You´re held close, and in our prayers.

We've known Gary for many years through our church affiliation. He was a good friend and always greeted you with smile. We will miss him on our Forest Park Covenant Golf League, and I will miss him at our occasional breakfasts. Unfortunately, we will not be able to attend his memorial as we are in Florida. But we Will see him again.

My sincere condolences to the family. I worked at Forest Park Covenant Church for 18 years and Gary was always one of my favorite people. He was always professional, organized, and friendly. He had a denim jacket that I loved and I always joked he could leave it to me. When I would see him I´d say, I see you´re wearing my jacket. We would both laugh. RIP, Gary. You are now with the love of your life and have seen Jesus face to face. Glory!
