Gary Allyn Torfin

Gary Torfin, age 76, passed away peacefully at Engel Haus Assisted Living in Albertville, MN on July 30, 2023. Gary was born in Crookston, MN in 1947 to parents Curtis and Clarian (Roragen) Torfin. Gary is remembered by his daughter, Jennifer (Kelly) Simondet and son, Michael (Lisa) Torfin; his siblings David (Denise) Torfin, Cheryl (Mike) Warzeha, Sandy (Jon) Hartin, Cindy (Barry) Lemmage, Susan (Darryl) Kettenacker, brother-in-law Jeff Rose, sister-in-law Pam (Jim) Lepinski, step-brothers Clark Goldthorp and Mike Shenaman; and step-sisters, Shirley (John) Huffine, Gloria Craig, and Joan Rutherford, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Cindy, brother Danny (Sally) Torfin, brothers Ronald, Roger, and Mark Torfin, parents Curtis and Clarian (Roragen) Torfin, and stepmother, Verna Torfin.
Gary graduated from Rockford High School in 1965. 1966 was a busy year as Gary joined the Navy and married Cindy Rose. Gary was stationed in California, Washington State, and Texas as an Aviation Electronics Technician. After his military service, Gary worked for approximately 10 years for Red Owl Stores in various positions. Gary then became a sheriff's deputy and worked for the Wright County Sheriff's Office, retiring as a Captain after 30 years.
Gary loved to volunteer and was associated with the Teamsters Local 320, Kiwanis International Buffalo Chapter, and Lions International Monticello Chapter.
Gary loved to spend time with family and friends, listen to music, play cards/dice/games, and drink coffee, as long as it came with a dessert. He also loved to attend his father's Air Force Reunions and was a World War II history buff.
Gary will be remembered and missed as a great family member, co-worker, friend, and volunteer.
A Celebration of Life will take place on August 12th, 2023 at 4:30 PM, at the Peterson Chapel at 300 North Main Street, St. Michael, MN. All are invited to attend this celebration of Gary's life. Private interment will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff at Guardian Angel's Engel Haus and Triniti Hospice for the care they provided to Gary. In lieu of flowers, Gary requested donations to St. Jude's Hospital.
