Gary Lee Townsend, passed away on June 6, 2025 in Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook, NE. He was born on October 16, 1936 to Densel & Neva (Crook) Townsend.
He graduated in May 1954 from Decatur County High School. After high school Gary went to McCook College from 1954-1956.
Gary served his country from 1959 to 1961 in the US Army. He was stationed in Chitose Japan. Gary's father, Densel, became ill so he came back to run the farm.
On May 2, 1964, Gary married Lucille Carter in Trenton, NE. They lived on the Crook place, south of Danbury for 61 years. To this union three sons were born, Trent, Brent & Krent.
Gary was a big Husker fan and loved hunting and fishing.
Gary is survived by his wife, Lucille Townsend of Danbury; sons Trent (Jessica) of Oberlin, Brent (Michelle) of Danbury and Krent (Trish) of Danbury; Grandchildren Alexandria (Jasper Evans), Kalen, Isabella, Elizabeth, Tyler, Turner & Trenly; Great Grandchildren Bristol, Caselynn & Dayton Evans; brother-in-law: Wayne (Anne) Carter; nephews: Kevin Archer and Nic Carter and niece Carris Cummings. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Densel & Neva Townsend; sister Betty (Jerry) Archer; parent-in-laws Lyle and Vola Carter; and grandson Tanner Lee Townsend.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025 at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home, Oberlin, KS at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be Friday June 13, 2025, from 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM at Plumer-Gobber Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made out to Decatur County Sportsman's Association. Condolences can be left at www.plumergobber.com
