Gary Veney Obituary

LaPaz – Gary George Veney, 86, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025 at East Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart, IN. Born on February 6, 1939 in Long Beach, CA, Gary was the son of George Vena and Clara (McWilliams) Reuhle.
Gary honorably served in the United States Navy, enlisting at the young age of 17. His service included time stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station and two deployments on an aircraft carrier with routes around Japan, Guam, and the Philippines. He further served at the Naval Air Station on Midway Island and continued his dedication to the Navy in the Reserves, providing military funeral honors.
It was at Gardner's Restaurant where Gary met Bonnie Ruth Elburn, the love of his life. They married on February 25, 1961, in LaPaz, Indiana, where they established their home and raised their two cherished children, Jackie and Steven.
An enthusiastic fan of Bluegrass music, Gary found joy in playing the guitar and immersing himself in the melodies of the genre. He loved the great outdoors, particularly camping, and treasured the memories made along the Michiana Wine Trail while exploring various wine tastings.
Gary's zest for life was evident in his outgoing and playful spirit. Known as the family prankster, he delighted in sharing stories and engaging with others throughout his adventures, leaving a lasting impression on those he encountered.
Gary is survived by his children, Jackie Veney-Bradley and Steven Veney (Deb Rimpler); grandchildren, Lee Reingardt, Delayna (Edgar) Mercado, Zane Rimpler, Scott (Nancy) Rimpler, Garrett (Tiffany) Rimpler; along with great-grandchildren, Danni, Deaglon, Payton, Reyna, Julian, Abigail, Violet, Colt, A.J., Grant and Gracelyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Janice, Sharon, Art, Marilyn, and Judy.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara; beloved wife, Bonnie; siblings, Wayne, Joy, Trudy, Gail, and Diane; granddaughter, Lacey Reingardt; and son-in-law, Quintin Bradley.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan Street, Plymouth, IN 46563. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1PM with Life Celebrant James Smart officiating.
