Gary Wagner Obituary

Gary D. Wagner was born on April 18, 1948 to Kenneth and Christine (Cummins) Wagner. He died at his home in Mount Vernon, Illinois on Saturday, July 29, 2023.
He married Nancy Schmeltekop on July 11, 1970 at Saint James Lutheran in Holland, Indiana. She survives. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister. A brother-in-law and a niece survive.
Gary attended the University of Evansville in Indiana where he was very active in the music department and graduated with a degree in business.
He worked in men's and women's wholesale and retail and was men's buyer, manager at the Mammoth Department Store. He did catering and upholstery. Gary and his wife owned The Mitered Corner where he did custom framing. He retired four years ago.
He was a member of Peace Episcopal Church in Rockport, Indiana. He served on the Vestry, prepared the weekly newsletter and filled in for piano when needed. In the past he played piano at Trinity Episcopal Church in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Gary loved animals, especially dogs and cats and their dog, Tessa.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 from 5 to 7:00 P.M. at Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. till service time at the church in Rockport, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 4, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Peace Episcopal Church in Rockport, Indiana. Father Patrick Connell will officate. Interment will be held at Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Peace Episcopal Church in Rockport, Indiana or any Humane Society. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home.
