Gary Eugene Watters, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025, in Sarcoxie, Missouri. Born November 5, 1956, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of the late Elmer Eugene and Eldred G. (Madsen) Watters. Gary's life journey was marked by devotion to family, faith, and the joy of music.
Gary's early years were spent in the vibrant community of Frankenmuth, Michigan, where he graduated from Frankenmuth High School with the class of 1974. His intellectual curiosity and spiritual calling led him to pursue higher education in Biblical Theology, culminating in his ordination as a minister in 1996.
Throughout his life, Gary served with a compassionate heart, first as a minister in Frankenmuth, and Carthage, sharing his faith and wisdom with those around him. Later, he channeled his practical skills into a career as a mechanic and maintenance man, where his keen intellect and remarkable memory earned him the admiration of colleagues and friends.
Family was the cornerstone of Gary's world. He is survived by his loving children, Tabatha Manka (Nate) of Carthage, Missouri, Melissa Stickel of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Keith Gilbert of Carthage, Missouri, and Seth Watters of Carthage, Missouri. His sisters, Carol Sue Pinola (Dan) of Alba, Missouri, and Brenda Snyder of Joplin, Missouri, remember him as a wise and spirited brother. Though his sister Martha Slater and brother-in-law Tim Snyder predeceased him, the memories they shared continue to resonate with those who knew them.
The light of Gary's life shone brightly through his grandchildren, Brooke McHorney (Billy), Camie Rosenthal (Mason), Mariah Canales, Brittany Canales, and Ava Stickel, as well as his treasured five great-grandchildren. Each of them carries a piece of his spirit and the lessons he imparted.
Gary's passion for life was reflected in his varied interests. A skilled craftsman, he enjoyed the meticulous art of reloading bullets. Music, however, was his truest companion. From strumming his guitar in a rock band during his younger days to later performing with a Christian band, Gary's musical talents brought joy and inspiration to many.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday June 16, 2025, at Knell Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Carthage, Missouri. Visitation will be from 10 am to service time. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed though www.knellmortuary.com.
