Gary Wayne Weir, 85, of Maumelle, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2025 with his family by his side.
He was born on March 2, 1940 in McRae Arkansas to Virgil and Anna Lou Weir. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Donald Weir.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Weir, his daughters Terri Weir (Lee Slusarek) and Karen Colford (Joe), granddaughters Sarah Thomas (Jeff), Katie Greenwood, Hannah Davidson (Will), great grandchildren Rorie, Remy, Oliver, Griffin, Audrey and Charlotte (due to arrive very soon), and his nieces and nephews.
Gary’s grandkids and great grandkids called him G and as a result, many close to him also affectionately referred to him as G.
Gary enlisted to serve in the Army Reserve in 1957 and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2000. He and his wife Nancy took advantage of their opportunity to travel before he became ill. They enjoyed several trips abroad but the trip he enjoyed more than any other was their visit to the Holy Land where he was baptized in the Jordan River. His love for Christ and his love for history made this his trip of a lifetime.
He will be remembered with lots of love for his big heart, his playful sense of humor and above all his devotion to his family who would like to extend a special thank you to his sweet caregivers from Wright By Your Side, with special gratitude to Diedra Frazier and Towanda Smith, also to Baptist Hospice.
Years ago Gary sent these words to a dear friend, “God went to a great Medical School to know how to design our bodies. We thank His Son Jesus for giving his life so we may live in God’s kingdom forever.”
A visitation will be held on March 24 at 10:00 am with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. Interment will be at Riverwood Memorial Gardens in Maumelle following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask that Gary be honored by memorials to Special Olympics Arkansas, 2115 Main Street, North Little Rock, AR 72114 or Church of Maumelle, Church Of Maumelle, PO Box 13984, Maumelle AR 72113.
