Gary Wilkes, age 68, resident of Chickamauga, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at his residence. Mr. Wilkes, son of the late Robert Arliss Wilkes and Barbara Jean Fonders Wilkes, was born November 5, 1956 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was a welder and faithfully worked for over 20 years until he retired. Mr. Wilkes was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He enjoyed watching drag racing; fishing; and playing softball. While at home, many would see him keeping up his yard; gardening; watching movies and YouTube videos; and listening to oldies rock. The family remembers him as a loving husband, father, and one who looked forward to raising bull dogs. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Stephanie Wilkes. Mr. Wilkes is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Deborah Wilkes; one daughter, Sonya Hood; one sister, Teresa Ritchey; one brother, Randy (Tina) Wilkes; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 2 p.m. with Jeremy Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park, Rossville, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 12 noon till 2 p.m. Arrangements by W.L. Wilson& Sons Funeral Home, 555 West Cloud Springs Road, Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
