Gayla Jaunita Weidig, 71 of Solway, died Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at her home in Solway, MN. Family remained at her bedside as she peacefully passed away.
A Celebration of Life for Gayla has been planned to take place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, late afternoon. Full details will be provided as the date gets closer.
Gayla was born to Leslie Julin and Katheryn (Ryan) Julin, on October 4, 1954, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Katheryn passed away when Gayla was around 2 yrs. old. Around this time, Leslie returned to Becida, Minnesota to live near his family as he worked and continued raising Gayla. A few years later, Becida, was also where he met and married Lois (Locke) Julin. Gayla grew up in Becida, attending school, both in Becida and later, in Bemidji, Minnesota. She met George Weidig in Bemidji, while he was away from his Indianna home and visiting family in the Bemidji area. They were married October 21, 1972, in Becida, Minnesota. After they were married, they lived in Indiana for a few years, later moving back to Minnesota, where they built a home in Solway, Minnesota, worked, and raised a family.
Gayla had various jobs throughout her life, the longest being at Sanford Hospital, in Bemidji, Minnesota where she worked in and retired from Food Service after 20 yrs. of employment. She had a few hobbies that she did in her spare time, but reading books was always her favorite.
Gayla is survived by her daughters; Christina (Troy) Hazeldine, Angela Carter. 3 ladies, near and dear to her heart, that love her enough to call her Mom; Lynette Serbus, Faith Acosta, and Kaylynn McKinley. Siblings; Dale (Anna) Julin, Curtis (Cindy) Julin, Susan Julin, Oscar Julin, and sister-in-law, Catherine (Weidig) Fitgerald. Grandchildren; Brian, Kristy, Tyler, Christian. Also; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gayla was preceded in death by her; husband, George, daughter, Katherine, mother-in-law, Katherine, Glenn and Lois, also her grandparents, parents and many other loved family and friends.
During her life, Gayla touched a lot of hearts. She was a source of support and helped to give guidance to many as they were going through struggles in their lives. She was loved dearly and will be missed.
