Born on June 23, 1968, Gena was the daughter of a proud military family and spent much of her childhood moving from post to post as an "Army Brat." She lived throughout the United States and spent six formative years in Germany, experiences that broadened her worldview and fostered the curiosity and adaptability that remained central to her character throughout life. These early travels shaped her appreciation for diverse cultures and helped cultivate the warmth and empathy that endeared her to so many.
Gena devoted her professional life to education, serving as a longtime teacher and mentor who believed deeply in the potential of every student. Her gentle guidance, patient encouragement, and genuine care left lasting imprints on countless young people. Even after retiring from the classroom, she remained passionate about learning, service, and community, continuing to offer support wherever she saw a need.
Family was at the heart of Gena's life. She cherished time with her loved ones, whether celebrating milestones, sharing quiet conversations, or offering a listening ear. Her thoughtful spirit, generosity, and innate ability to make others feel valued were hallmarks of her personality. She faced her lengthy illness with astonishing grace, meeting each challenge with courage, faith, and an enduring sense of hope.
Gena is survived by her devoted family, who remained steadfast by her side throughout her health struggles. She leaves behind relatives, friends, former students, and colleagues who will remember her for her gentle smile, steady kindness, and the dignity with which she approached each chapter of her life.
Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, medical teams, and friends who supported Gena with compassion during her final years. Her strength, her warmth, and her generous spirit will remain deeply cherished and profoundly missed.
A private family service will be held to honor Gena's life and celebrate the love she shared so freely. In the coming months, the family will also host a celebration of life.
