Gena M. O'Lear, age 74, of McCandless Twp., left this world peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025. She was preceded in death by her dear husband, Andrew (Drew) and her two brothers, Robert and Joseph Schaeffer. Gena is survived by her brother William Schaeffer, her nieces Michelle Loadman, Tracy Renshler, Tina Schaeffer and her nephews Matthew Schaeffer and Joshua Schaeffer, as well as great nieces and a nephew. She started life in a dramatic way, being born to Robert and Ruth Schaeffer during the Blizzard of 1950. Gena kept the adventure going by eloping with Drew at age 17. It was the start of a 56-year marriage to the love of her life. Prior to a serious back injury, Gena enjoyed gardening and later, when she was limited, she loved watching the birds instead. She had love for all animals, but she adored cats the most. Until recent years, she aways had at least one - even one named "Pickles!" She also enjoyed colorful jewelry as it was one of her passions. Gena surrounded herself with the collectibles she loved - Disney figurines, China dolls, and many others. They brought her great pleasure. Gena was a kind and compassionate woman, she will be missed by all who knew her. There will be a Funeral Service at the Thomas P. Kunsak Funeral Home, Inc., 3552 California Avenue at Davis Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Friends (especially to all of the cats).
