I am so sorry I learned of this a day too late to attend his memorial. Like so many, Mr. Buzzard was my chemistry teacher at Snider. He was tough, but always with a little glint of joy and mischief in his eye. Many is the lunch I went down and watched Andy Griffith with him at noon on WFFT. My senior year, I played the tough-as-nails law professor (the role originally played by John Houseman) in Snider's production of THE PAPER CHASE. The Monday after he saw the show, Mr. Buzzard called me up to his desk. "I saw the show Friday night," he said. "Oh, good," I replied. "Yes. You were very good. Very good." "Thank you, Mr. Buzzard," I said. After a long pause, he looked up at me and said, "That was me up there, wasn't it?" "Ummmm...well...yes...Mr. Buzzard...yes, you were definitely an inspiration for the character," I eeked out, having been busted. "Mmmmhmmmm," he said, "Well...you should have had me back in the day. I've mellowed." And with that I walked away, contemplating how tough a teacher a NON-mellow Mr. Buzzard must have been...

Mr. Buzzard was a wonderful teacher. My first year of chemistry at Purdue was easy because it was all review from what I had learned in high school. He pushed me to be the best version of myself. I remember visiting him after I graduated from college with a biology degree. I had been hesitant to apply to medical school and took a job in pharmaceutical sales. He let me know he thought that was a waste of my abilities. He encouraged me to follow a path to help others. In the end, I became a physician which was in part due to his encouragement. My deepest condolences to his family.

So very sorry for your family's loss. Mr. Buzzard was by far the best teacher that I ever had. Because of him I went into the chemistry field. He definitely was one in a million! I will always remember him fondly.
