Gene Avery Emerson, 91, of Georgetown, IN., passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024. He was born in New Salisbury, IN, on April 8, 1933, to Marvin and Helen (Baker) Emerson.
Gene was a Korean War veteran and served our country with pride and bravery as a member of the United States Army. He was married to his wife, Catherine, for 64 years before her passing, and they had three sons together, creating a lively home filled with humor and love. Gene worked as a greenskeeper for some time, but retired from his career as a diesel mechanic, and was also a member of the VFW.
Preceding Gene in death are his wife, Catherine Emerson (Hanger); son Terry Emerson; parents, Marvin and Helen Emerson; and sisters, Nancy Johnson and Wilma Tinsley. Left to cherish memories of Gene and celebrate his life are his sons, David Emerson (Patti) and Kevin Emerson (Carrie); his brother Roy Emerson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Naville and Seabrook Funeral Home, 1119 E. Market Street, New Albany, IN, from 9 am- 1pm. Following visitation, burial will take place immediately at Wolfe Cemetery, Wolfe Cemetery Rd., Georgetown, IN 47122. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The VA Hospital, Amedisys Healthcare, or donor's choice.
