He was a 1959 graduate of New Albany High School. He married France S. Garrison (nee Mason), on February 24, 1962. They were married 50 years, until her death, in 2012. They raised two sons, Todd and Bill and doted on their grandson, Andrew Todd.

A proud tradesman and carpenter, Mike was a member of Local Union# 64 of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 50 years. Mike was dedicated to his family, friends and the Union. He loved his time fishing on Nolin Lake. He was an excellent carpenter and mechanic, a tinkerer and fixer of things. He was an avid reader, liked to watch IU sports and enjoyed a good joke. Mike never saw a dog he didn't like and was tied to the hip with his buddy and third son, Bocephus. In a steadfast manner, he was always there for his two boys. The love for his only grandson Andrew, was unbridled.
