Obituary Elmo Gene Hoskins
Elmo Gene Hoskins (Gene), a current resident of Twin Falls, Idaho passed away Friday November 14, 2025 following a long battle with heart disease.
Gene, who used his middle name as his primary given name in order to avoid confusion with his older Sister Elma, was born in Blackfoot, Idaho on 4 February 1938. Gene was the youngest of 15 children born to Josiah Howell and Julia Matilda Clark Hoskins.
Gene grew up in Blackfoot, Idaho and graduated from Blackfoot High School where he was a star basketball player for the Broncos. Upon graduation from high school he attended and graduated from Utah State University in Business. He then joined the United States Air Force ROTC program where he was an intelligence officer with the Office of Special Investigations (OSI) during the height of the cold war where he served in Arizona. His most notable achievement however was his marriage to Lyla Jackson from Thomas, Idaho on 6 September 1957. He was the first member of his family to complete a Bachelor's Degree.
Upon completion of his military service Gene was employed in Human Relations with several companies including Westinghouse and Bucyrus Erie in Pocatello, Idaho where he was ultimately relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His roots in Southeastern Idaho ran deep and he soon chose to return there, where he was the Human Resource Manager for Idaho Frozen Foods from which he retired after five years. After his retirement he subsequently served as the city manager of the City of Elko, Nevada.
Gene was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying golf, hunting, fishing. He and his older brother James spent many days together in the outdoors enjoying the beauties of nature. He came from a strong heritage of western pioneers where his grandfather and great grandfather helped settle much of Southeast Idaho which in part explains his love of the outdoors and the west.
Gene is survived by his wife Lyla, his children, Jace Howell Hoskins of Reno, NV and Marcy Jo Hoskins of Twin Falls, ID and grandchildren, Echo (Amanda) Robbins of Nampa, ID, Sarah (Richard) Miller of Pike Road, AL, Hunter Hoskins of Buhl, ID and his great grandchildren, Azey, Indie, Marina, Sabrina, Easton, Everett and Jameson. He was preceded in death by his parents and all 14 of his brothers and sisters; he was the last of his family.
Funeral Services will be held on November 22, 2025 at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S Shilling, Blackfoot, Idaho 83221 at 2:00 PM. A viewing will be held an hour prior to the services starting at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Riverside-Thomas Cemetery.
