Rawlin Eugene "Gene" Hunter, 83, passed away January 18, 2026.

A native of Charlotte, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Rawlin Chard and Louise Jackson Hunter. Gene was a graduate of North Greenville College, Furman University, and the University of South Carolina where he received his master's degree.

He was a former educator and coach at D.R. Hill Middle School and Blue Ridge High School, and the former owner of Rock's Country Store and Restaurant. Gene proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corp and the United States Army.

Gene deeply loved his grandchildren and faithfully supported them in all endeavors, especially rodeo and fishing tournaments. He was a devoted member of El Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Long Hunter of the home; a son. Rock Hunter (Ami Hawkins) of Greer; a brother, Jerry Hunter of Pass Christian, Louisiana; a sister, Sandra Bradley of Augusta, Georgia; and four grandchildren, Leah Hunter Hare (Colton), Cole Hunter (Liliya Didok), Emma Hunter Johnson (Mason), and Addi Grace Hunter (Colt Bass).

A memorial service will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at The Wood Mortuary, conducted by Pastor Jobal Baldwin and Rev. Robert Emory. Webcasting will be available at www.thewoodmortuary.com.

Visitation will be held 2:30-3:45 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at The Wood Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to El Bethel Baptist Church Building Fund, 313 Jones Avenue, Greer, South Carolina 29650.
