DaddyGene

Some of my fondest memories are of visiting with my grandparents
Spending time in Irving and at the ranch are such treasured moments

I learned how to appreciate Mexican food, catch tadpoles and find fossils
Being with DaddyGene and Grandmother is better than any of the tv channels

I’ve always admired my DaddyGene for his intelligence, compassion and strength
Feeling so exceptional as his granddaughter knowing he’d go to any length

To provide for us, comfort us, teach us, and show how much you love us
You entertained us and calmed us when we would make such a fuss

Your sense of humor has always made me laugh hard enough to slap my knee
Even when you offered my date a chance to see naked baby pictures of me!

No one seems to be as proud and impressed of me as you do
Your constant encouragement and strong support has helped me through

You’ve journeyed to Florida to each of my graduations
Making me feel so radiant that I’d exceeded any expectations

Always taking such an interest in my hobbies and aspirations
Embracing quirks and disappointments without any hesitations

You’re always in my heart and a huge part of who I’ve become
Thanks to you I’m a successful woman instead of a bum :)

I started this poem as a way to let you know how much you mean
But trying to write it down or put it in words just seems obscene

Words can’t even come close to describing how much I love you
But I’m sure you feel the same and understand my point of view

I do know how very blessed I am to have such a wonderful DaddyGene
A heart and love like yours is very rarely seen.
