Gene Kyzer Obituary

Gene Austin Kyzer, 96 of Fernandina Beach, FL passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2025.
He was born September 9, 1928 in Parrish, Alabama to the late William Wesley and Flossie Gaye Robinson Kyzer. He grew up in Parrish, Alabama and graduated in 1948 from Parrish High School.
He was a retired military veteran that served his country for over 21 years in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
Gene loved his Lord and Savior and was well versed in the Bible which he had read from cover to cover 23 times in his life and spent countless hours studying. He enjoyed sharing this knowledge with friends and family and the occasional stranger. The Almighty God and His Word were extremely important to Gene.
Gene loved spending time with his friends at Council on Aging. He had developed some very close friendships through COA over the years.
Gene is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Ethelyn Daugherty Kyzer; daughter, Terry Knight; his brother, Horace Glenn Kyzer and sister, Carolyn Kyzer Wilson.
Gene leaves behind his son, Kelly (Amanda) Kyzer; granddaughters, KaeLynn and Gracie Kyzer and grandsons, Jeff and Jason Knight all of Fernandina Beach; nieces, Wanda (Rick Holt) Wilson and Victoria Autrey. He also leaves behind good friends, David Kennedy and Lane Mashburn along with many other friends whom he cared about greatly.
Gene's family have all served in the military. His dad served in 1917 during WW1, his brother during WW2, Gene served during Korean and Vietnam War, and his son (Kelly) served during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation enduring Freedom until he retired in 2017. For the past 100 years a member of Gene's family has served this country during every major war in the world. My dad, being the patriot he was, was very proud of that.
Since there will be no service, I would like to tell you who my dad was to me and the best way to do that is through and song verse.
"He bowed his head to Jesus, and stood for Uncle Sam.
And he only loved one woman; He was always proud of what he had.
He said his greatest contribution is the ones you leave behind.
Raised on the ways; And gentle kindness of a small-town southern man."
This was from a song by Alan Jackson called "Small Town Southern Man". That song and "Simple Man" by Lynayrd Skynyrd are 2 songs I urge you to listen to and share with friends that knew him because they both describe who my dad was to me. God Bless you all and God Bless the USA.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that a memorial contribution be made to Council on Aging.
