Gene Edward McCullar, 82, departed this life on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at his home. He was born on December 12, 1942, in Greene County, to the late Howard Edward and Susie Francis (Vaughn) McCullar. He was a proud graduate of Stanford High School, Class of 1960, and served honorably in the United States Army at Fort Huachuca in Arizona.
Gene married the love of his life, Sharran Lloyd, on January 25, 1964. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams until her passing in 2015. Gene's legacy is one of devotion-not only to his beloved wife but to his entire family.
Gene retired as a rural letter carrier with decades of scattering mail out in the county. As a younger man, Gene was known for wearing many hats. He chopped and picked cotton, worked at Dr. Pepper in Paragould, built many buildings, sold real estate, raised hogs, cattle and children, played and coached baseball, mowed yards, helped his neighbor, and loved the Lord. He was a devoted member of the Paragould 1st Church of the Nazarene where he served as Treasurer and taught Sunday School for many years.
Gene also found joy in fishing and watching birds. He possessed a passion for collecting coins, a hobby that he infused with love for his grandchildren. Gene meticulously saved coins from the birth years of each grandchild, often sifting through drawers and collection boxes to find the perfect pieces. When the time was right, he would present these coins as thoughtful gifts, leaving a lasting memory that speaks to his caring nature.
Gene was known for his smiling face, his quick wit, and being a great example. He enjoyed going to coffee with his friends, anything involving his grandchildren, and asking people for their smile.
Gene is survived by his sons, Greg (Amber) McCullar and Chad (Jaime) McCullar; daughter-in-law, Laura McCullar; grandchildren, Gena, Lauren, Tyner, Graden, and Addisen McCullar; great grandson, Lucas Raper; and lifelong friend and brother, Danny Greer. He was preceded in death by his parents; bride of 51 years, Sharran McCullar; and son, Brent McCullar.
To honor Gene's life and legacy, a visitation will be held at Heath Funeral Home on Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service with military honors beginning at 12:00 PM with Rev. Heath Vines officiating. Gene will be interred privately with dignity and honor, resting in the embrace of the community he loved.
In this time of sorrow, let us remember Gene Edward McCullar for his gentle spirit, unwavering dedication to family, and the joy he found in simple delights. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
