Gene Carlyle Preddy, age 90, of Selma NC, passed away January 28, 2026. He was born on March 12, 1935, to the late Joseph and Frances Preddy.
His life was defined by a rugged spirit and a commitment to service. A proud United States Marine and a dedicated fireman, Gene spent his career protecting his country and his community.
Beyond his public service, Gene was a deeply respected Western Horse Trainer, and handler- passions that reflected his grit and character.
Well known in the community for his training, breeding, showing Palomino, Paints, and Quarter Horses. His love for animals played an important role in his life. He was a true cowboy at heart. His favorite past time was spending time with family, and friends and watching old western movies.
Above all, Gene was a father and a beloved grandfather who instilled in his family a strong spirit for life. He leaves behind a proud legacy through his two daughters, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Gene is survived by two daughters, Deidera Seibel and her husband, Danny Norris; and Sharon Law.
Also survived by his grandchildren Nicolette Seibel, Samantha Seibel and her husband, Thomas Churchill; Brent Law, Jr. and his wife, Raven Law, Trevor Law and his wife, Jessica Law.
His great-grandchildren Abigail Law, Alianna Law, and Forest Law; his former wife Esther Preddy; his niece Pam Batchelor and her family; his partner Cindy Marshall who he had a special bond with and extended family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Frances Preddy, his sister Sandra Preddy Wright; Nephew Franklin Joel Pergerson; granddaughter Kathleen Michelle Blumeyer Choplin; his beloved dogs Thelma, Louise, Pasha, and horse Blair (Cee Blair Sin)
Gene will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.

A graveside service to honor Gene's life will be held Friday February 6, 2026, at 3:00pm at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton, NC.
