JoAnn grew up in
Brooklyn, New York-a true Brooklynite through and through. After graduating from Madison High School, she attended Pace University. She had always carried with her an unmistakable sense of style that never left her. Fashion was always important to JoAnn and she carried herself with pride and an unmistakable sense of style.
She often spoke fondly of getting dressed for work-first as a banker in Manhattan and later as a real estate agent-treating each day as an opportunity to express herself. Her children loved to tease her for always "putting her face on" before heading to the grocery store-because in JoAnn's world, you didn't leave the house without being a little polished.
Music filled her life and her home. She especially loved Carole King, and her children remember Tapestry as the soundtrack of their childhood. Married to a musician, there was always music playing, and where there was music, there was JoAnn-dancing, laughing, and twirling with her daughters in the den of the family home.
JoAnn had a deep love for art and beauty in all its forms. She was a collector of antiques, constantly decorating and reimagining the family home. A talented still life painter she cherished museums, Greenwich Village, and days immersed in culture-passions she passed on to her children from the time they could walk.
Raised among horses, dogs, and cats, JoAnn carried a lifelong love for animals. Her devoted fur babies were constant companions, faithfully staying beside her, offering comfort and unconditional love until her final breath.
More than anything, JoAnn loved being a mother and grandmother. Her family was her world. She was the proud mother of Jeannine (the late Frank Christopher) and Melissa, and a devoted grandmother to Frankie (Talia), Vincent (Anna), and Angelina Marie. Her love for her family was boundless and her presence will be felt in the music, art, and moments of joy she leaves behind. She will be cherished, loved immensely and remembered always.
JoAnn was predeceased by her parents, Genaro and Anita Alaio Buffone.
