Sue Cooper Obituary

Sue Cooper

January 8, 1955 – December 11, 2025

With heavy hearts and grateful spirits, we announce the passing of Sue Cooper, honoring a life that touched so many. She was surrounded with the love of her family and the warmth of shared memories.

Susan Marie Rohrmann Cooper, lovingly known as Sue, was born on January 8, 1955, in Yonkers New York to Margaret and George Rohrmann. She grew up in Madison, New Jersey, where she graduated from Madison High School in 1973 and developed the strong, independent spirit that would define her life.

Sue's life was one of curiosity, creativity, and compassion. After briefly attending Ann May School of Nursing, she followed her artistic side and trained in cosmetology, becoming a talented hair stylist and make-up artist who helped people feel confident and seen. In 1976, Sue married, and while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, she welcomed twins, Jason and Jaime Terwilliger, in 1978 - one of the greatest joys of her life.

In 1982, Sue returned to the United States and settled in Grass Valley, California, where she raised her family and put down deep roots. Eventually, she returned to her calling in healthcare, becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant and later a Unit Secretary in the surgery department at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. For more than 30 years, Sue was a steady, trusted presence - known for her dedication, honesty, sharp wit, and no-nonsense compassion. She retired earlier this year, proud of a career spent helping others.

Sue lived life with humor, heart, and passion. She was funny, direct, and fiercely loving - especially when it came to animals. She adored her rescue dog, Chloe, and volunteered at the animal shelter where Chloe was adopted, giving her time and love to animals who needed it most.

Music filled Sue's world. She had a beautiful singing voice and an uncanny ability to sing harmonies with ease. Whether listening to The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, Andrea Bocelli, or Barbra Streisand, Sue sang along joyfully, music always close to her heart. She also loved her plants, the beach, country living, thrifting adventures, and most of all, spending cherished time with her granddaughter.

Sue's greatest legacy is the love she gave so freely. She is survived by her daughter, Jaime Terwilliger; her granddaughter, Shelby Chapman; her sister, Barbara Gilmore, and brother-in-law, Andrew Gilmore; her daughter-in-law, Kristen Terwilliger; nine nieces and nephews; and six great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be remembered fondly by countless friends, coworkers, and all who were lucky enough to know her.

Sue lived authentically, loved deeply, and laughed often. Her voice, her strength, and her love will continue to echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to an animal shelter or Sammie's Friends in Sues honor, reflecting her deep love for animals - especially rescue dogs.

Susan Cooper's imprint was indelible, her wit scalpel sharp, her work ethic unimpeachable.
Sue's vision of human nature and it's ability to dare unnecessary deviations, radiographic, and deftly excised with surgical precision. Sue met others' 'issues' with an unabashed affect necessary to the situation. Susan Cooper compelled others to excel and laugh simultaneously.
She was loved by many and respected by all. She will be missed but not forgotten.

I first met Sue in nineteen hundred and ninety four on the Surgical Floor. From the start it was clear that she was a very special person. Despite her infectious smile and haughty laugh, she had a no nonsense personality. Her word was her bond. It quickly became evident that simply there was no need to follow up. She completed all that was requested of her quickly and efficiently! Though she made this world a better place, her friends and family can rest assured that she is in a better place! We all miss her! God Bless and Rest in Peace Sue! You certainly deserve it!

Sue always made me feel better when she was on the team. She cared greatly for not only the patients, but for us nurses as well. We love you Sue and you will be missed greatly

Sue was the kind of woman who changed the temperature of a room the moment she walked in.
We worked together for years, and in that time she became more than a coworker-she was a companion in the trenches, a steady force, and a spark of life on even the hardest days. She was strong in a way that made you stand a little straighter just by standing beside her. Defiant when it mattered. Genuine in every breath. You never had to guess where she stood; she told you plainly, and somehow that honesty always felt like care.
Her patients received the very best of her. I´ve never known a CNA who poured more skill, more heart, or more fierce devotion into the people she served. She set a bar the rest of us measured ourselves against.
And in the middle of all that work, all that intensity, we laughed. We sang. We kept music playing on the unit like it was our own little heartbeat. Those moments-voices blending, shoulders bumping as we passed each other, a song carrying us through a long shift-are stitched into my memory as tightly as the serious ones. She brought that kind of joy with her, even when life was heavy. Sue, Mama Sue, Susie cream cheese. Your imprint will not fade, you will be deeply and fiercely missed.

Sue was a very special person at SNMH, especially for those of us blessed to work with her in surgery. Her upbeat attitude and appreciation for others and life have always reminded me of her. Nothing could be more true of Sue than all of the things noted in her obituary. My deepest condolences to her family and close friends for this truly great loss.

I had the honor of working with Sue. She was kind and beautiful, inside and out. She also had that unique talent that comes with years of experience, and I could trust her when she said something wasn't quite right with a patient. Her wisdom in all things was something to behold. She was also whip smart and funny! I miss all those things about her. But I will mostly miss her hugs every day, when we met and parted.

I worked with Sue for many years. She was the BEST. She was a no nonsense, hard working, tender hearted, good humored person. I loved when she was on because I knew stuff would get done, patients would be cared for 100% and she´d make me laugh. It´s a good life when you can leave this world a little bit better for having been here. thank you Sue!
