Gene Preece Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Callaham Funeral Home on Jan. 20, 2026.
Gene Randall Preece, age 84, of Richmond, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January

18, 2026, in Irvine, Kentucky.

Gene was a graduate of Goodwill Academy, where he was honored by the Mayor of Washington, DC, upon graduation. He went on to a dedicated career, retiring from Lord & Taylor Department Store after 25 years of service. Following his retirement, Gene returned to Martin County, Kentucky, the place he proudly

called home. He was a faithful member of the Inez Church of the Nazarene. Gene was a devoted husband, brother, and friend. He shared his life with his beloved wife of 50 years, Alice Preece. Known for his warm and friendly nature, Gene never met a stranger; instead, everyone was "good buddy." His kindness and gentle spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He was a man of faith who trusted in God throughout his life. He found strength and comfort in his belief, and his faith guided him in how he lived, loved, and treated others.

Gene now rests in the presence of the Lord, reunited with loved ones who went before him, and leaves behind a legacy of devotion, kindness, and unwavering faith.

Gene is survived by his wife Alice Preece; his sister and brother-in-law Ginger and Kenneth

Cox; and his brother Phil Preece.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora June Penn, and stepfather, Ralph Penn; his

father, Ed Preece; and his brothers, Russell Logan Penn and Ralph Richard Penn, Jr.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at the Callaham Funeral Home with Wade Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at the Cox Family Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Wednesday, starting at 11:00am until the time of service. Arrangements are under the direction of the Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, KY.
