Henry Preece Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Affordable Burial & Cremation Service - Austin Area on Mar. 4, 2026.
Henry Lee Preece, lovingly known as "Buster," peacefully joined his Lord and Savior at 1:37 a.m. on January 24, 2026. He was 77 years old.

Born November 26, 1948, in Cedar Park, Henry was the youngest son of Alvin and Winnie Mae Preece. He made his home in Spicewood from 1973 until his passing, building not only houses through his work as a skilled carpenter, but also a life centered on faith, family, and service.

Henry proudly served his country by serving in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade from May 1969 to November 1970. Just before his deployment, on April 13, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Delores Ann Roye. Their story began at Ramsey Park in Austin - a simple meeting that blossomed into a lifelong partnership grounded in love and faith.

Together, Henry and Delores helped found Pedernales Valley Baptist Church in Spicewood with the support of Billy Clark and the Southern Baptist Convention. Henry faithfully stepped into many roles at the church - Sunday school teacher, children's choir director, church music leader, and wherever else he was needed. He believed in serving with a willing heart.

Henry was also known as someone you could count on in a moment of crisis. As an emergency first responder in his community, he was often one of the first on scene, offering calm, strength, and help until emergency services arrived.

Music was woven into the fabric of his life. Taught to play guitar by his brother at a young age, he carried that gift with him always. Rarely seen without his guitar or harmonica, he loved playing gospel, country, and classic rock and roll. Through song, he shared joy, encouragement, and his unwavering faith. He often said, "Everything in life is temporary, but Jesus is always there."

Above all, Henry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He raised his children in church, teaching them to love others, to serve where they could, and to trust in the Lord through every season of life. He often reminded his family, "Everything in life is temporary, but Jesus is always there."

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa Preece Pendergraft and her husband Tim; his son, Greg Preece and his wife Amanda; and his cherished grandchildren: Ariana, Kamryn, Anthony, Melanie, and Matthew.

A memorial service will be held on March 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at One Chapel Church, 22800 State Highway 71 West, Spicewood, Texas. A graveside service will follow at Hanie Flatt Cemetery, 132 Hidden Springs Court, Spicewood, Texas.

While his family grieves his absence, they rejoice knowing he is home with the Lord he so loved and served. His life was a testament to faith, music, service, and enduring love.
