Gene Lynn Rush passed away on Wednesday, November 29,2023 at the age of 86 following a 5-year battle with cancer.
He is survived by 3 grandsons: Jonathan and wife, Kaitlyn of San Diego, California; Jackson and Joshua of Virginia Beach, Virginia; brother, Gary and wife Millie of Levelland; sister, Sharon and husband Stephen Walling of Tyler, TX, and numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra (Tyler); son, Ronald Gene, and parents, Christal and Gearlene Rush.
Gene was a lifelong resident of Levelland. He attended Texas Technological College and in 1959 he was hired as business manager at the Phillips-Dupre Hospital/Clinic. In 1979, he became branch manager for First Federal Savings and Loan. Gene was appointed Hockley County Auditor in 1987 and retired from that position after 23 years of service.
He was an avid Red Raiders sports fan, especially basketball, and served as president of the Hockley County Red Raiders Booster Club for several years. He was an excellent golfer and won many tournaments with his playing partner Jimmy Johnson, and others. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends at Levelland Country Club. He loved vegetable gardening and sharing his tomatoes and peppers with friends and family.
Gene embraced life and maintained a positive attitude to the end.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2023 in the Krestridge Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society or South Plains College Scholarship Foundation.
