History:
Eugene "Gene" John Schmidlkofer was born February 28, 1934, on a farm south of Gainesville to Frank and Bernadina (Neu) Schmidlkofer, the oldest of four sons. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Lindsay Public School as well as schools in California when he moved there with his parents in the fall of 1942. He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958. After working building grain silos in California, he moved back to the Gainesville area in 1968. He married Ethel Sandmann on October 26, 1974. He worked for Felderhoff Brothers, Southland Paint and Valenite, where he retired after working there for 27 years. He was a 55-year member of the Knights of Columbus.
Relatives:
Survivors include his wife Ethel Schmidlkofer of Fort Worth, son Michael (Jackie) Schmidlkofer of Fort Worth, and grandchild Lauren Schmidlkofer of Fort Worth.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Bernadina Schmidlkofer, and brothers Arnold, James and Harry Schmidlkofer.
Donations:
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or St. Mary's Catholic School (Gainesville, TX).
Services:
A Rosary service, followed by visitation, will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Geo. J. Carroll & Son Funeral Home, Gainesville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Gainesville. A committal service will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, Lindsay.
Nephews and a cousin will be pallbearers. Special thanks to all of his caregivers over the past 2 years.
