Gene Wimpey Obituary
Mr. Wimpey was born on June 7th, 1941 in Ellijay, GA to the late Clyde Wimpey and Pauline Hyde Wimpey. Gene was employed by CSX and a member of the Nine Mile Methodist Church in Ellijay, GA. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wimpey is preceded in death by his son, Jeff Wimpey, and brother-in-law, Edmund "Ed" Dalrymple.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alene Wimpey of Ellijay, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Meredith Wimpey of Ellijay, GA; step-sons and daughters-in-law, Les and Melinda Dillard of Ellijay, GA and Lynn and Lisa Dillard of Ellijay, GA; sister, Saralene Burgess of Ellijay, GA; sisters-in-law and brother in law, Glenda Dalrymple and Barbara (Edgar) Land all of Ellijay, GA; fourteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Services to honor the life of Mr. Wimpey will be held on Friday, June 27th, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Davenport and Rev. Steve Jones officiating. Graveside Interment will follow in the Wimpey Cemetery. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Luke Wimpey, Connor Wimpey, Seth Wimpey, Kevin Dillard, Levi Dillard, Johnny Moore, Cole Dillard, and Jaxon Dillard. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Frank Elliott and Jeff Stikes.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26th, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family will be accepting food and flowers in memory of Mr. Gene Wimpey.
Bernhardt Funeral Home of Ellijay is entrusted with these arrangements.
