Geneva Dickens Boone (also known as Genny) died unexpectedly on April 16, 2023 at Mary Immaculate Emergency Room. She was born August 7, 1930 in Courtland, VA., to the James and Annie (Peyton) Dickens. Geneva was the youngest of 11 children.
Geneva was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Boone Sr.; two sons, John Edmonds Jr. and Kevin Boone Sr.; three brothers, Walter, Willie and James; six sisters, Annie Lee, Elnora, Josephine, Lena Mae, Areatha (Tensy), Bessie Lee and Jannie.
Geneva was educated at Hayden Elementary School in Franklin, VA. She moved from Franklin, VA to Portsmouth, VA., in 1968 and from Portsmouth, VA to Grafton, VA in 1971 to take care of her father, the late James Dickens Sr.
Geneva had a heart of Gold and was an amazing care giver. Her first job was a care taker for Colonel Hayes and his wife, where she took care of their 11 children. She worked as a boat maker in Gloucester, VA., then pursued a career at Riverside Regional Medical Center where she retired. A few years after she retired from RRMC, she started to work at Regency Healthcare.
She was a good and faithful servant of the Lord. She joined First Baptist Church Jefferson Park in 1974, where she still was a member at the time of her death. She served faithfully in the Chancellor choir, Sanctuary choir, Women's ministry and Church Interest Group. She loved her Pastor and most importantly she knew her Pastor loved her.
Geneva was one of the most adventurous persons in the Boone family and would try anything if you asked her. She has traveled up and down the East Coast to Hawaii, has been parasailing, and rode roller coasters with her grandchildren and taken cruises. Upon landing in Hawaii, she was privileged to have her picture taken in the cockpit of the plane as the crew celebrated her 85th birthday. She never complained about anything and would always say "If God's willing" or "I just put it in the Lord's hand." Her heart and spirit was so pure and contagious. You could never get enough from being around her. You could have met her for the first time and she would take you right on in. She would give her last to help out the next person.
Geneva was truly an amazing person. She loved her family and prayed for them every day. She was so loveable and meant what she said. She would nurture you when needed and discipline you with no second thoughts about it when you were wrong. She was the conductress of the Boone family and kept everyone going. Not only did she raise her 11 children, she took custody of some of her grandchildren and raised them until they were grown. She made sure to instill in her children and grandchildren that prayer changes things and if you keep God first in your life everything will fall in place.
Geneva leaves to cherish her memory Roy Boone Sr. (Viola), Betty Jean Winston (James Morris), Amanda Jones (Reginald), Janis Williams, Robert Boone Jr. (Sheila), Ronald Boone, Ricky Boone Sr. (Beverly), Monica Boone, Donald Boone (Lanita) 30 grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, spiritual daughters, sons and a very close friend Beatrice Bryant.
Viewing will be held 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, April 23, 2023 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A homegoing celebration will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2023 at First Baptist Church Jefferson Park, 615 42nd St, Newport News, VA 23607.
