Geneva Sue "Ginny" Painter

Geneva Sue "Ginny" Painter, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 26, 2026.

Born December 19, 1940, in Ellijay, Georgia, Ginny lived a life marked by kindness, warmth, and deep devotion to her family and community. She was the daughter of the late Homer and Cleo Weaver and grew up in Gilmer County, where she formed lifelong friendships.

Ginny attended Henry W. Grady School and a graduate of Gilmer High School's Class of 1957. Ginny enjoyed a successful career and retired from American International Group in Atlanta. She also worked with United Guaranty Mortgage and Lockheed Martin in Marietta and was known for her outstanding achievements, strong work ethic, and dedication.

Ginny loved reading, antiques, attending theater performances on Marietta Square, and spending time with family and friends. She was an active member of the Red Hat Ladies of Ellijay and volunteered through church and community activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Madison Painter; her son, Jeffrey Painter; several siblings; her daughter-in-law, Andrea McArthur; and her granddaughter, Rae McArthur.

Ginny is survived by her sons, Dana McArthur, of Woodstock, Georgia, and Benjamin H. Painter and wife, Kiyoko Painter, of Pacifica, California, along with her cherished grandchildren, Daniel Blake Kirk, Gaige Gagnon, Davis McArthur, and Jackson Painter.

Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the promise that she now rests in the arms of her Savior, whole and at peace.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at the First Baptist Church of Ellijay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Adult Ministry at First Baptist Church of Ellijay in memory of Mrs. Painter.
