Charlie Painter Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home on Mar. 1, 2026.
Mr. Charles Benton "Charlie" Painter, 79, of Paint Lick, passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026.

Charlie was born on December 2, 1946, in Jefferson City, TN, the son of the late Howard & Gertrude Cates Painter. He was a graduate of Sulphur Springs, and was a long time factory worker, retiring from Precision Tube. Charlie loved watching Westerns on TV, coloring and doodling on his tablet, but spending time with his family was what he cherished the most.

On November 15,1991, Charlie married Dorothy Shockley and for the last 12,524 days, they have annoyed each other and enjoyed spending time traveling, and just being at home with their cats…the cats that he claimed not to have liked!

In addition to his wife of 34 years, Dorothy Painter, he is survived by: his children, Charles Painter II (Freida), Denise Painter & Tammie Painter (Kevin); two brothers, Gary Painter (Beverly), and Mark Painter (Cheryl); 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, his cat Sassafras "Sassy"; as well as a host of other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by: one daughter, Terri Painter, one step-daughter, Kristie Combs, one step-son, Justin Combs; and one brother, Danny Painter.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Burial will be in the White Oak Cemetery in Estill County.

The Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, W. Main St., Richmond, is in charge of the arrangements.
