Buren Ruth Hyde

Buren Ruth (Sumner) Hyde, 97, of Ellijay, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2025, at the Oaks of Ellijay.

She was born Feb. 25, 1928, in Ellijay, to the late Frank Nathaniel Sumner and Eunice Jewell (Plemmons) Sumner. She was a 1946 graduate of Gilmer High School and a faithful member of Mountaintown Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hyde; brothers, Charles, Herbert and Jim Sumner; sisters-in-law, Juanita, Inez and Grace Sumner; and son-in-law, Wayne Sales.

She is survived by daughter, Sandra Sales; grandchildren, Scott (Melisa) Sales, Brenda and Dr. Terry Wimpey; great-grandchildren, Mati Teague and Hunter Wimpey; and sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Mack Logan. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2025, from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Doug Hall delivered the eulogy. Special music was provided by Ronald and Linda Hyde and Matthew Newton.

Interment followed in the Mountaintown Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Sales, Dr. Terry Wimpey, John Sumner, Mike Sumner, Keith Sumner and Todd Coleman. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Miller, Mack Logan, Victor Davis and Tim Parks.

Donations may be made to the Mountaintown Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Nine Mile Cemetery Fund, in care of Sandra Sales, 55 Sanford Lane, Ellijay, GA 30540, in her memory.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Compassus Hospice and The Oaks of Ellijay for the excellent and compassionate care.
