BRANDON:

Genevieve Marie Castonguay deLancey-Gearwar, 94, of Brandon, Vermont, passed away peacefully in her home on October 1, 2025 surrounded by family.

Genevieve was born on March 28, 1931 in Whiting, Vermont, to Donat and Beatrice (Swenor) Castonguay.

She grew up on a farm, although she never enjoyed farming. Receiving her education in local Whiting schools, she graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1950. She began her working career in the payroll department at Van Raaulte in Middlebury, for several years. Afterwards she was employed at Crosby Insurance Agency in Brandon. Being as social as Gen was, she became the secretary to the principal, at Neshobe School in 1978 and retired in 1994 following 16 years of service. She prided herself in knowing everyone in town. In 1996 she married George Gearwar, and together they enjoyed traveling most of the United States and abroad. Her favorite place to visit was the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. Gen loved square dancing, baking, and gardening while feeding her chipmunks.

She is survived by her husband; George Gearwar, her daughter; Maureen Vitagliano and her husband Anthony and the apple of her eye, her granddaughter; Olivia Genevieve Vitagliano, 4 step-sons; Jeff, Barry, Bradley, and Greg Gearwar. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother Edgar Castonguay.
