RUTLAND:

Marjorie Carleton, age 89, passed peacefully August 21, 2025, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Marge was born in Proctor on October 25, 1935. She was the daughter of James and Agnes (Aines) Baker. She grew up in West Rutland where she received her early education and graduated from West Rutland High School, call of 1953. Following graduation she began working as a bank teller. After her marriage to Richard Janowski, she was a stay-at-home mom raising her five children. Mr. Janowski predeceased her. She worked the laundry service for years before marring Roland Carleton, who also predeceased her. She also had worked in housekeeping in Killington for several years and finally retired following five years on the line at General Electric. She was an avid reader, enjoyed puzzles and doing her plants. She loved cats.

Surviving are 3 sons; David Janowski, Joseph Jankosky and Mark Janowski, 2 daughters; Darlene Bresnick and Lynn Armstrong, a brother; Richard Woods, 3 sisters; Nancy Caggige, Dorothy Demaria and Kathleen Allen. 15 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was also predeceased by a brother; Walter Baker and a sister; Alice Tabor.

The memorial service "In Celebration of Her Life" will be held on September 27, 2025, at 11 AM at the United Church of West Rutland. A reception, in her memory, will follow the ceremony in Pratt Hall. A private graveside committal service and burial will take place, in the family lot, at Wallace Cemetery in Sudbury.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; the United Church of West Rutland, 60 Chapel St. West Rutland, VT 05777, or to the Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford, VT 05763.
