Genevieve T. Hook

The world lost a little bit of light when Genevieve "Gen" T. Hook, 94, of Berwick, PA left us peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born on April 27, 1931 in Mocanaqua, PA to the late Anthony and Frances Galkowski, Gen lived a life marked by faith, compassion, and creativity. She was a beacon of grace and warmth, someone whose quiet strength uplifted everyone she encountered.

Though her faith grounded her, it was her humor that lit up the room. She believed in the healing power of a good chuckle and used hers generously.

She worked for many years as a supervisor at Lady Ester before retiring and continuing her lifelong mission of caring for others in new ways. A devoted mother, grandmother, and faithful member of Bower Memorial United Methodist Church, Berwick, since 1962, Gen taught both adult and children's Sunday school classes at Bower Memorial and prayed for others daily. She also volunteered with the children's program at the YMCA.

She expressed her creativity through painting and crafts, and her home was often filled with music and dancing, especially her favorite, polka.

Gen was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Harold E. Hook, who died July 25, 1993; her son, Leonard Hook; three brothers: Stanley Galkowski, Frank Galkowski, and Edward Galkowski; and her sister, Loretta Galkowski.

Gen is survived by two sons: Larry Hook of Berwick and Jeffrey Hook of Lebanon; her daughter, Lorie Abbott and her husband, John, of Middletown; five grandchildren: Larry Hook, Jr. and his wife, Melissa, Daniel Hook and his wife, Amy, Christopher Abbott and his wife, Samantha, Derek Hook and his wife, Lidya, and Jenna Abbott; eleven great-grandchildren: Hannah, Noah, Austin, Lyla, Levi, Eleanor, Lily, Luke, Mira, Nara, and Benjamin; and sister-in-law, Patricia Galkowski (Edward).

A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. at the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., 110 Chestnut Street, Berwick, with Rev. George Price of Berwick Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Berwick.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Berwick Methodist Church, 1000 Orange Street, Berwick PA 18603. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home, Inc., Berwick.
