Scaccia, Genevieve "Jenny"
ROTTERDAM - Genevieve "Jenny" Scaccia, 90, of Rotterdam, was welcomed into the Lord's arms on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at her home, surrounded by the love of her children and their spouses.
Born on April 17, 1935, on the family farm in Mariaville, N.Y., to the late Joseph and Anna Sobieski, Jenny learned at a young age the value of hard work, faith, and family. When she lost her parents, she left school to support herself, later returning to earn her GED, something she was deeply proud of. On June 12, 1955, Jenny married her soulmate, Jack Scaccia. From that day forward, they built a beautiful life side by side. Together, they shared dreams, laughter, and an unshakable bond that lasted until Jack's passing, in 2003.
They ventured into the bowling business in the late 1950s, starting with VV lanes in Schenectady, N.Y. Over the next 50 years, Jenny and Jack owned and managed Alpha Lanes, Town & Country Lanes, and Boulevard Bowl. The bowling centers weren't just businesses, they were extensions of their home, places where friendships grew and community thrived.
After Jack passed, Jenny worked alongside her son Jack Jr. at Town & Country Lanes, until her semiretirement in 2020, continuing to greet customers with her warm smile and caring heart.
Jenny was the cornerstone of her family, the one who made sure everyone felt loved, supported, and well-fed. Raising five children while working daily at the bowling alleys was no small feat, yet she managed it with grace, humor, and a strength that inspired everyone around her.
She kept her children in line with a look or a word, but always with love at the center. She celebrated every milestone, comforted during every hardship, and was never too busy to listen. Jenny's life was rich in simple pleasure trips to Florida, afternoons of shopping, autumn apple picking, visiting farm stands, and the occasional adventure to the casino. She found joy in the changing seasons, in family gatherings, and in being together.
A talented cook, she filled her home with the irresistible smells of simmering sauce, fresh bread, and hearty family meals. She mastered Italian recipes passed down from her mother-in-law, perfected "Nana's" dishes, and made a Gotabki (Golumpki) that could rival anyone's. She often called after a meal to ask, "How was dinner," a question that came from a place of pride and love. Her famous meatball and sauce recipes became treasures, shared only with a fortunate few.
Jenny leaves behind a legacy of love that lives on in her children, Jack (Dawn) Scaccia of Voorheesville, Joseph (Suzy) Scaccia of Rotterdam, Anita Scaccia (Vince Bowers) of Mariaville, Lisa (Chris) Wrubel of Fla., and Michael (Tara) Scaccia of Glenville. Her grandchildren, each of whom brought her great joy, include Stephanie (Kyle) Haines of Altamont, Anthony (Janelle) Scaccia of Guilderland, Jennifer (Dallas) White, Jiacomo Scaccia (Zachari Wall), and Jovanni Scaccia (Tattiana Hamilton), all of N.C., Attilio, Sophia, and Michael Scaccia of Glenville, Joseph DeVellis (Marci Chadwick) of Colonie, Jessica (Eric) Daigneault of Colonie, Jamie Reinemann (Blake Duncan) of Rotterdam, and Jessie (Karah) Reinemann of Troy. She was blessed with great-grandchildren, Zachary and Ethan Haines, Anthony Hall (Shyanne DeLacey), Dylan Hall (Elia Cowsert), and Madyson Jones; as well as great-great-grandchildren, Baby Scaccia, Colden Hall, and Adeline Hall. Jenny is also survived by her brothers, Casmier (Sue) Sobieski of Rotterdam, John (Ruth) Sobieski of N.J., and Stanley (Mary) Sobieski of N.J., along with several nieces and nephews.
She is reunited in Heaven with her beloved Jack; her sisters, Florence Kruse and Felicia Hunt; and her brother, Raymond Sobieski. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Maria T. "Honey Bunches," of Home Instead, for her extraordinary care, compassion, and guidance during Jenny's illness. They are also deeply grateful to her Community Hospice care team, Paul K., nurse, Lexi W., medical social worker, Garth, chaplain, and all those who worked quietly in the background to make Jenny's final days peaceful and filled with love.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road, Glenville. A funeral service will immediately follow at 1 p.m.
Interment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Glenville.
