George Philip Acker of Nazareth Texas passed away outside of Channing Texas on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the age of 34 years.
George was raised in Nazareth, Texas by his parents, Kevin and Christine Acker, where he attended and played football for Nazareth High School. After high school, he joined the United States Navy where he served from October 2009-October 2013 on the USS Laboon. Following his discharge from the Navy, George was employed as a Corrections Officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Dalhart Unit before returning to military service with the United States Army where he served from April 2018 – June 2020 as a Cavalry Scout. He returned to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after leaving the armed forces and was working as a Correction Officer 5 (C05) at the time of his death.
George was especially proud of his service to his country and was a proud Veteran. He was loved by his family and was known to his siblings and cousins to be quietly hilarious; often making the funniest jokes and winning most games at family gatherings. He enjoyed being around family very much and was never afraid to lend a helping hand or silently listen when someone needed a listening ear. He will always be remembered for his thoughtful gift giving. He was loved by his nieces and nephews and enjoyed watching their faces as they opened his gifts. His unique sense of humor and jovial but steady demeanor will be greatly missed.
George is survived by his parents, Kevin and Christine Acker of Nazareth, siblings, Nicole Walls and husband Cory of Lubbock, Jeanette Salguero and husband David of Ft. Worth, Brian Acker and wife Shelby of Nazareth, Patricia Acker, Allen Acker, and Jesse Acker, all of Nazareth, nephews, Jared Acker, Stetson Walls, Nathaniel Salguero and nieces, Avery Walls, Christina Walls, and Evelyn Acker along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Anthony and Angela Acker, and Jerry and Nellie Wilhelm.
Rosary will be recited on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 3:00 P.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following with Rev. Arokiaraj Samala, Deacon Bob Birkenfeld and Deaon Joe Hochstein as celebrants. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.
