Helen Marie Clevenger went home to Jesus on November 16, 2025 at age 80.

Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Hart with Dr. Matt Baird, Pastor Brendon Scoggin and Pastor Zachary Scoggin officiating. Burial will follow at Hart Cemetery under the care of Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Marie was born to Harvey Carroll Davis and Delphia Marie Davis on April 1, 1945 in Wellman, Texas. She had a wonderful childhood, enjoying farm life with her four siblings, along with her loving mother and father, whom she recounted as providing a home that made them feel secure.

In her early years, she worked as a store manager at Froener Variety in Dimmitt, Texas. Other places of employment included Texas Instruments in Sherman, Texas and Holly Fertilizer in Plainview, Texas, where she had a job as a bookkeeper. Back in her hometown of Hart, Texas, she relished the opportunity to interact with students as a teacher's assistant, and she easily won the hearts of many who appreciated her kindness and ability to make learning pleasurable.

She married Duane Clevenger, the love of her life, on November 25, 1975 in Edmonson, Texas. The two spent many happy hours with their four sons – Guy, Gary, Scott, and Chris. With Duane, she built a thriving farm business and felt a sense of gratification during harvest season when she filled her pantry with canned produce of all kinds. Family members recall the group effort that included breaks to savor buttery corn on the cob. Marie also took joy in planting a variety of flowers and proved herself to be an expert at growing them, providing a secret garden in her own backyard. Inside her home, she also showed herself to be gifted in the art of interior decorating. Filling the rooms of her home with beauty brought smiles to family and friends who visited throughout the fall season and at Christmas time. When family gathered, she especially liked playing games and singing hymns.

She also looked forward to time with family during camping vacations to the mountains and off-roading trails in the high country of Colorado. Such trips offered her a peaceful connection to her Lord as she found beauty in His creation. Her adventurous spirit was also evidenced in an appreciation for roller coasters, which she rode even into her later years.

In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Marie was treasured by her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Nana. Special memories include elaborate tea parties, Nana's Woods, playing in the 100-acre Wood, watermelon seed-spitting contests, breaking pinatas, and overnight stays with both Papa and Nana.

Marie held an unwavering faith in God, evidenced by her sacrificial service toward others, her commitment to the local church, and her desire for all people to know the grace offered to them through faith in Jesus Christ. In her last days, she anticipated seeing her Lord and Savior above all else. She expressed an unwavering hope in the promise of a great reunion that she now is experiencing with many brothers and sisters in the Lord.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her parents, Harvey and Delphia Davis; a brother and his wife, Weldon and Gaylia Davis; a brother and his wife, Jimmy and Greta Davis; and a brother, Roger Davis.

She is survived by four sons: Guy Scoggin Jr. and wife, Tammi, of Amarillo; Gary Clevenger and wife, Rosie, of Lubbock; Scott Clevenger and wife, Michelle, of Hart; and Chris Clifford and wife, Kay Lynn, of Rio Rancho, N.M. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Jo and Floyd Light, of Olton; and sister-in-law, Valeria Davis, of Dimmit. She was a happy Nana to thirteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
