Mr. George Allen, son of the late Cleveland and Geneva Allen, was born on September 1, 1945 in Allendale, S.C.
George migrated to Philadelphia at the age of 10. He was so excited moving to the big city of Philadelphia with his family.
George was educated in the public school system and later went on to serve his country in the United States Army. While in the Army, George was stationed in several different countries and fought in the Vietnam War. While in Vietnam, his job was a combat engineer. George was truly dedicated to his time in the Army.
After returning from the Army, George worked in construction for a few years. He later worked for Plumb Tools, but realizing his true passion was in construction, he left and began working for Nason & Cullen, where he remained for 25 years and rose to the position of Foreman.
Throughout his life, George was known for enjoying time with his family, his kindness, humor, strength, and security. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with loved ones – going to the movies, dinners, amusement parks, cookouts, holidays, and family trips.
George enjoyed fishing with his son, brothers, and nephews. Fishing was truly his passion, and they often challenged each other to see who was the best and who caught the biggest fish.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Rita Allen; his children – Regina (Sidney), Kevin (Azaraha), Lakisha, and Latoya; grandchildren – Sidney, Jamal, Wayne, Shakur, Don, Suhaylah, Anisha, and Liam; two brothers – Cleveland and James; a sister – Alice; two sisters-in-law – Marlene Allen and Luletha Cheatham; one brother-in-law – Samuel Robinson; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleveland and Geneva Allen; two brothers – William Allen and Bill Allen; three sisters – Doris Allen, Barbara Allen, and Mary Allen; mother-in-law – Frances Robinson; father-in-law – Stackley Robinson; one sister-in-law – Karen Allen; and two brothers-in-law – Kevin Robinson and Charles Garmon.
George will be remembered always for the love he gave, the wisdom he shared, and the quiet strength he brought to those around him.
