George J. Anthony, Jr., age 70, of Peoria, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospital in Peoria, IL.
George was born on April 9, 1954 in Peoria, IL, a son of George and Helen (Jacobs) Anthony, Sr.
George is survived by one brother, Stephen Paul Anthony, two sisters, Karen Sue Haimes and Loretta Marie Remley and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marie and two brothers, Lawrence and George.
George attended Peoria area grade schools and graduated from Bergan High School. After high school, George answered the call of his family to assist in operating the family local business, Ducky's Formalwear. He worked 7 years at the Bourland/Main St location and then later moved to the Metro Centre in 1978, serving the community for over 31 years, until the closing in 2009. He later assisted his brother at the Moline, LI location, retiring in 2016 at the age of 62.
George was active in the Peoria area. He was a member by birth of the ITOO Society and the Norwegian Slooper Society of America. He later joined the German-American Society. George was a civil war re-enactor for several years and had a good appreciation of history, antiquities and foreign languages.
Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Peoria, IL, with a one hour prior visitation. Fr. Robert Lampitt will officiate. Burial of ashes will be at Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ITOO Society.
