George Charles Barber, 90, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on August 9, 2025 in Wellesley, MA. Cherished husband of 66 years to Shirley (née Filigenzi); exceptional father of Beverly Barber (Kevin Heckler) and the late Bruce (the late Karen) Barber; beloved Grampa of Chloe and the late Payton; dearest brother of the late Anna Mae Barber, Mary Jane (John) Kady, and Paul (Sally) Barber; dedicated brother-in-law of Aggie (the late Fred) Day, Rita (Ed) Crawford, and the late John (Marilyn) Filigenzi.

George was one of a kind with a wonderful wit and a generosity of spirit. He lived life to the fullest and will be remembered as a jazz drummer during his early days, a world traveler who filled up several passports while on business trips and family vacations, a poolside grill master, a formidable gin rummy player, and a coiner of numerous catchphrases that his friends and family will continue to quote for generations.

George had a remarkable presence with kindness, humor, and warmth that he shared so freely. He brought joy wherever he went, leaving memories that we will cherish forever. George not only traveled the world but everyone thought the world of him.

His engaging charm and youthful exuberance stayed with him throughout his final days, and he will live on in those who love him, carried forth in our hearts. We raise a glass (specifically a gin martini with 2 olives – and just think about the vermouth) in loving memory of our beautiful friend, father, husband, brother, grandfather, uncle, and great-uncle, with this Celtic traveler's blessing:

"May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields, and until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand."

George Barber, we love you more than bubblegum.

A private Funeral Mass was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. https://www.stjude.org/
