George B. Barksdale, known to many as "Pete" was born on January 24, 1943 in Lincolnton, GA. He was the eldest child born to the late George Lee Barksdale and late Frances Norman Barksdale. After the passing of his mother, he and his brother Woody relocated to Plainfield, NJ with their father and second mother, the late Margie L. Barksdale.
In Plainfield, where many new relationships were established and lasting bonds were formed, Pete became known for his respectful, reliable nature, and strong work ethic that landed him one of his first jobs on the team of Chaney's Cleaning Service of Scotch Plains. Those who worked with him knew he could be counted on to be diligent, punctual and committed to the service he was contracted to provide. Those same qualities carried through to an extended career with Republic Services Waste Management Company from which he retired after more than 30 years of dedicated tenure, waking at 4 a.m. daily to safely drive and operate systems that serviced many communities throughout New Jersey.
In the early hours of July 20, 2025, the God who George B "Pete Barksdale proclaimed in his heart, freed him from the challenges of an acute illness and welcomed him into Eternity. He was predeceased by his parents, George Lee Barksdale and Frances Norman Barksdale, second Mom Margie L. Barksdale; brothers, James "Woody Barksdale, Jeffrey L. White, and G. "Junie" Barksdale; late wives, Bertha, Hazel and Agnes Craig Barksdale.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Wanda Denise; children, David Dunn (Clara), Dr. Dereck Bivins (Shelley), Monique Craig, Lisa Craig Blake (Billy); grandchildren, Quwanda Shanira Brooks and Chief Advocate Shakira Craig; great grandchildren, Lae Lanii Middleton, Sanai Johnson, and Jasirr Carter; sister, Patricia Rodgers (Norman); and an extension of nieces, nephews, uncles, cousins, friends, neighbors, and acquaintances.
