George "Bud" Thomas Benton, 77, of Augusta, Kansas, passed away on August 23, 2025.
Bud was born on June 16, 1948, in Thomasville, Georgia, to Clyde Benton and Joy (Green) Benton. He grew up in El Dorado and graduated from Circle High School with the class of 1966. He went on to earn his associate's degree from Butler Community College and also attended classes at Southwestern College.
On March 7, 1969, Bud married the love of his life, Sue Altenhofen, in Towanda, Kansas. Together, they shared over five decades of love, family, and cherished memories.
Bud began his career at the Cities Service Oil Company in El Dorado before later joining Boeing as a machinist, where he worked until his retirement. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication, he was respected by his colleagues and friends.
Outside of work, Bud's passions were clear. He had a lifelong love for old cars, restoring and building them himself with skill and patience. He also enjoyed the thrill of NASCAR, and the peace of a quiet day spent fishing.
Bud will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his knack for working with his hands, and his love for the simple joys in life. He had an unwavering love for and was a pillar of strength for his children, family, and friends. His absence is leaving a hole in the hearts of many, and it will be hard to fill that void. In his presence, worries seemed to fade away. He was everyone's Buddy, and he will always be ours. May we honor him by carrying his spirit forward with kindness and good deeds for others.
Bud will be missed by all who were blessed to know him. He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Benton, of Augusta; his children, Shelley King, of Greenwood, Missouri, and Thomas Benton, of Augusta; his grandchildren, Kyle, Mya, and Alton; his nieces and nephews, Scott, Stephanie, Wendy, Lacy, Joey, Randy, Steve, Marc, and Mick; his siblings, Joy (Marty) Pickett, and Sue (Barry) Mohler; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Bud was preceded in passing by his parents, Clyde and Joy Benton.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 28, at 1:00 PM at Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado.
