George Bletsas Obituary

George L. Bletsas, D.D.S., of Grosse Ile, passed away July 12, 2021. Loving husband of Estelle for 58 years. Proud father of Marina nee: Bletsas (Chris) Emde and Charles (Mary Beth) Bletsas. Loving grandfather of Bianca Emde, Alex Emde, Courtney Emde, Claire Bletsas and J.B. Bletsas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonidas and Bertha Bletsas and his sister, Marina Bletsas. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Michigan and then went on to receive his D.D.S. degree from the University of Detroit Mercy Dental School. For over 40 years, George practiced dentistry in the Downriver community. He enjoyed serving his patients and being a part of their lives. Throughout his career he was a member and leader of the Michigan Dental Association and the American Dental Association, and actively mentored young dentists across the country. When not at the office, he loved to downhill ski, collect Lionel model trains, and root for Michigan football. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in memory of George to the Michigan Dental Association – Bletsas Scholarship Fund or the Children's Hospital of Michigan. I´m so sorry to hear of his passing. I only heard after the service or I would´ve come by. Dr Bletsas had a big influence in my life during my formative years. I learned a lot from him.
